About BurnBot

BurnBot provides systematic fuels treatment services to prevent destructive wildfires. We're firefighters, scientists, engineers, prescribed fire practitioners, ecologists, and community members who are answering the call to scale fuel treatment capacity. Our modern fuel treatment system recognizes and supports conservation efforts with a clean, smoke-free process. We need technology to amplify our workforces with targeted use of synthetic fire to treat fuel loads 10x faster than previously possible.

The Role

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of People & Culture to build and lead a world-class HR function at BurnBot. This leader will partner closely with our Head of Legal, People and Safety to shape company culture, scale the organization globally, and ensure we attract, develop, and retain exceptional talent.

This role is an exempt role with a salary range of $160,000 - $190,000. However, we do consider many factors when creating job offers, including (but not limited to), the role, location, responsibilities, experience, training, education, and skillset.

Required Skills

  • Define and execute a comprehensive People & Culture strategy aligned with BurnBot’s business goals and growth trajectory

  • Serve as a trusted advisor on leadership effectiveness, organizational design & development, workforce planning, and culture

  • Ensure consistent, high-quality HR delivery across the organization

  • Supportive Work Environment: Create and maintain a supportive work environment across the organization

  • Culture Development: Develop a positive, mission-driven culture through employee satisfaction and engagement

  • People Support: Provide support to employees through problem-solving and addressing employment-related inquiries

  • Training and Development: Create and drive training programs compliant with BurnBot's mission and culture, including orientation and department-specific training

  • People Operations: Manage HRIS, performance management processes, administrative compliance, and total rewards

  • Benefits Administration: Drive benefits administration, including open enrollment and vendor relationships

  • Location and Schedule: Working in the South San Francisco office as needed

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Passion for BurnBot’s mission

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Human Resources or equivalent with Master's degree or relevant certification preferred

  • 10+ years of HR experience, with 2-3 years of leadership experience and people management

  • Progressive HR experience, including time in a business partnering role supporting senior leaders (Sr. Directors and VP’s)

  • Strategic Partnering Skills: Proven ability to align people strategies with business objectives, influencing leaders and driving outcomes

  • Experience collaborating across departments, multiple locations, and time zones

  • Working knowledge of US federal, state (California, Nevada and Oregon) and local employment laws and benefits

  • Highly analytical and metrics driven, with strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent customer service skills. Including listening, responding and assisting with a positive, of service mindset

  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong bias for action and accountability

  • Physical ability to lift/push/pull weights of up to 25 lbs with regularity and sit for long periods of time
