Company Overview

Blue Energy’s mission is to unlock energy abundance, energy affordability, energy security, and turn-key decarbonization by developing the fastest path to deploying new nuclear MWs at scale. We are utilizing shipyard manufacturing supply chains and techniques from offshore oil and wind to reduce the cost of nuclear plants by over 60% and the manufacturing timeline to 24 months. Blue Energy is a platform technology that makes use of the latest NRC-approved reactors and is in negotiations with existing nuclear and industrial sites, enabling a much faster regulatory pathway to deploy our first unit. With our innovative centralized shipyard manufacturing approach, we can put nuclear power on a cost-reduction learning curve akin to wind, solar, and lithium-ion batteries.

Position Overview

Blue Energy is seeking a highly motivated Project Development Intern to support our national siting and project development efforts. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, commercial strategy, interconnection, real estate, and stakeholder communication and alignment.

As a Project Development Intern, you will work directly with senior development and cross-functional teams to evaluate new sites, structure project pathways, and advance projects toward construction.

This is a high-ownership role designed for individuals who want hands-on experience in utility-scale energy infrastructure development.

A Day in the Life

As an intern at Blue Energy, you will:

  • Support Site Prospecting & Screening: Conduct evaluations of potential project sites, including transmission proximity, water access, logistics feasibility, environmental constraints, etc.

  • Assist with Interconnection Strategy: Compile transmission and interconnection data and information to evaluate and strategize interconnection pathways.

  • Real Estate & Land Due Diligence: Help organize title materials, mineral ownership summaries, easement mapping, and option structures to support site control strategy.

  • Market & Commercial Analysis: Contribute to early-stage commercial narratives, including load growth trends, industrial siting logic, and co-location opportunities (e.g., data centers, industrial load).

  • Stakeholder Research: Prepare briefing materials for meetings with utilities, economic development agencies, landowners, and local officials.

  • Internal Process Development: Assist in building structured trackers, screening tools, and development workflows to support multiple projects in parallel.

You will thrive in this role if you are:

  • Comfortable with Ambiguity: You can operate without perfect information and still move projects forward.

  • Structured and Detail-Oriented: You bring order to complexity and can distill large datasets into clear conclusions.

  • Commercially Curious: You are interested in how large-scale infrastructure projects get financed, permitted, and executed.

  • Strong Communicator: You can translate technical findings into concise executive-level summaries.

Qualifications/Helpful Background

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Energy Systems, Environmental Science, Economics, Urban Planning, Public Policy, Real Estate, or a related field.

  • Exposure to energy markets (ERCOT, PJM, CAISO, NYISO, etc.) is helpful but not required.

  • Interest in infrastructure development, energy transition, or large-scale project development.

  • Strong analytical thinking and ability to synthesize complex information quickly.

  • Familiarity with GIS tools a plus!

We look forward to your application and helping foster an era of safe, clean, affordable, and abundant energy.

Blue Energy is dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workplace. If you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn’t perfectly align with every requirement, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might be the right candidate for this or other roles at Blue Energy now or in the future.
